Dear Friends,
Hello. I miss much especially human interactions, planned and serendipitous, with beloved friends. In the wake of turmoil, the pandemic and merciless murders, I took a break like many others. A father dying beckoned, quiet beckoned, nimbleness beckoned, and a social distance from all demanded a new type of isolation to save lives. I am emerging, but all too aware that there is no return to some “normal,” instead an unpredictable future awaits—I add, of course, that precarity has been the state for most people all over the globe—And most people on this list, with local and global perspectives, know this. What to do in the face of uncertainty? Birth hope.
This leads me to the photo above. Old chicken nesting boxes occupy a former chicken coop behind our home—now named the CHICK COOP. With the help of many, I am transforming the coop, and its many nesting boxes, into a creative space. I nest. Have been nesting, reflecting and planning how to live forward, now that I am on the other side of forever.
In the coming months you will hear from me via this Substack platform and be able to peruse my archives going back to 2010. You will receive updates about shows, exhibits, talks, what I am making and cooking especially as it relates to, and is inspired by, the Book of Delights—a 15th Century Central Indian Cookbook with miniature paintings—and what I am growing on unceded land.
More coming, send me your news, how have you fared, what are you paying forward to make your world a bit better for all?
Love and solidarity,
Sarah
