"Pleasure & Defiance," Closing Oct 7th 2023 at Cove Street Arts curated by Indigo Arts Alliance, Portland ME
Arts of Sarah K Khan
Friends and Family,
Greetings after a long break from newsletter updates. It has been a busy few years, so I share with you some news from my corners of the world. The art I create these days is inspired by a 16th Century Central Indian cookbook with delightful manuscript paintings, all written in Persian. My recent solo show includes prints, porcelain, animation and is entitled, Pleasure and Defiance. All the pieces are infused with some serious play among a group of fabulous African Indian Ocean World femmes.
Below, I share links to talks, short films, writings and press reviews about the show at Cove Street Arts, curated by Indigo Arts Alliance.
Kohler Arts/Industry highlighted my practice where I shared the inspiration for the porcelain works while in residence, Fall 2022.

29 Sept 2023, Carl Little of Hyperallergic reviewed my show recently.
2 Sep 2023, Garland Magazine chose my porcelain spoons, Pander or Poison, for their September Laurel designation.
I’ll be giving a final tour this Saturday, October 7th at noon, come and hear/see all the layers that are not mentioned in any of the links above. These creations, in many ways, are my resistance to the slow violence of erasure.
Let me know your thoughts, and do share.
Warmly, Sarah
PS: Most of these missives are written from my home studio, aka, The Chick Coop
